AUSTIN (AP) – Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson is running for lieutenant governor.
The Republican former state senator says he’ll seek the spot in 2014.
Patterson’s announcement Tuesday came the same day that GOP Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst announced he’s running next year for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Patterson formerly was a legislator representing Harris, Galveston and Brazoria counties. He’s been land commissioner since 2002. The agency manages state assets on behalf of the Permanent School Fund, the state trust fund for public education.
