Let’s find some fun things to do indoors this week! As temps continue to stay in the triple digits – North Texas will cool off with some exciting milestones being celebrated this week.
First up – the movies!! On August 3, 2001, the Angelika Film Center opened its doors in Dallas so this week they celebrate the milestone with treats for all!! Wednesday they will thank the community for ten years of loyal support. To celebrate its first decade in Dallas, the Angelika Film Center will be showing – FREE OF CHARGE – select films that have had a significant impact on its ten years of programming. On August 3, from 1:30 – 10 p.m., noteworthy films include Made, the highest grossing film of opening week in 2001, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the highest grossing film of the past decade at the Dallas theater. Guests can celebrate with 10-cent bags of popcorn, 10-cent fountain drinks and cafe specials on sparkling wines. Moviegoers are invited to help kick off the festivities with a cake cutting ceremony at 1:00 p.m. in the cafe.
Another milestone takes us outdoors but who doesn’t love a theme park in the summer despite soaring temps??!! The golden anniversary celebration marking Six Flags Over Texas’s 50th anniversary season wraps up this week and it promises to be a good old-fashioned time ending with one lucky guest driving home in a brand new car. All summer long, guests have been given nonstop opportunities to enjoy the park’s milestone anniversary season. From the best super hybrid roller coaster in the world—the NEW Texas Giant—to concerts, attractions and giveaways, every day has been a Giant Celebration. This week the celebration will culminate with another layer of birthday activities and giveaways for our guests
Beatles fans will be excited to hear The Hard Night’s Day plays rhis Saturday at the Granada Theater in Dallas at 7p. The internationally renowned Beatles tribute band hailing from Dallas has been spreading the gospel of John, Paul, George and Ringo round the world for 13 years. Drawing from a catalouge of over 200 classics and nuggets, you will never see the same show twice! And the newly renovated Granada is the perfect spot to enjoy some really cool sounds from The Fab Four!
Our museums are a great place to stay cool – check out the Nasher or DMA and the Kimball and Museum of Modern Art in Fort Worth are excellent choices to beat the heat.
This is the last week for the Dallas Theater Center’s hit musical THE WIZ and soon West Side Story will arrive at the Music Hall at Fair Park as the last production of our Dallas Summer Musicals – it will be the official musical of The State Fair of Texas.
