Suspect Arrested For Shooting Deaths Near Irving Mall

IRVING (AP) – A suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of two men in a store parking lot near a suburban Dallas shopping mall.

An Irving police statement Wednesday said Lubbock Police had arrested 31-year-old Ladale Cubit of Euless on a capital murder warrant in the West Texas town of Slaton, 16 miles southeast of Lubbock. Cubit was in Lubbock County Jail without bond. The jail roster lists no attorney for him.

According to the statement, no motive has been found yet for the July 24 killings of 35-year-old Mehboob Pirani of Euless and 35-year-old Rahim Merchant of Missouri City in a parking lot across from Irving Mall.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a yellow or gold taxicab opened fire before fleeing.
