No Criminal Complaints In Latest Price Flap

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – There will be no criminal complaints brought in the altercation Wednesday between Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price and local reporters.

The District Attorney’s Office says neither wants to pursue charges.  During the melee, Price is accused of hitting WFAA-TV reporter Brett Shipp and later threatening him.

Shipp and I were on Dallas county property at the invitation of Commissioner Maurine Dickey, who was looking for county equipment she believes is missing.  I spoke directly to Price today, but he declined  comment.

DA spokeswoman Jamille Bradfield says the men reached a mutual decision.  “During the conversation with both individuals they were both very professional and both acknowledged there’s sometimes stress and pressures associated with their respective jobs.”  She added, “There’s no complaint and neither individual involved wishes to pursue any charges. “

Reaction from county government is muted.  Judge Clay Jenkins’ spokeswoman released this statement: ““The altercation was a situation between reporters wanting access to a private meeting among Commissioners. Judge Jenkins does not have the power to influence or monitor the behavior of elected officials outside of the Court. He is busy working on things he can control on behalf of the people of Dallas County.”

“It’s very unfortunate, it’s not a professional appearance,” says Mike Cantrell, who isn’t pleased with the actions of his two fellow commissioners.  But he says the county is working on a way to address the root issue: public access to property the public owns. “A policy that, that…. allows access to the media and to the public to those areas that are not safety sensitive or related to Homeland Security.”   He believes the suggested policy will be presented to the full Commissioners Court later this month.

Commissioner Dickey has not responded to our requests Thursday for comment, and neither has Darryl Martin, the man seen in the video helping Price at the door.   Mr. Martin is the chief executive officer in Dallas County government and reportedly not scheduled to be in his office Thursday.

By not pursuing charges against that thug you and Shipp are both doing a disservice to everyone in Dallas County. I’m guessing the reason is you are both cowards and afraid Price will “split your neck.”
I was a journalist 31 years and I think you both are wrong.

so he walks again on what should be an aggravated assault charge. one of these days someone is going to bust a cap on price and i hope the media, with camera’s rolling, are there to capture that treasured event.

  3. David says:

What a shame. JWP averts yet another criminal charge. Somehow he has evaded charges stemming from 2 Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon charges, multiple other assault charges, and even a terror threat charge. See for yourself:

JWP is not only a career politician, but IMO is also a career criminal….

    1. ANN says:

AND WHAT IF YOUR BACKGROUND WAS POSTED WHAT WOULD IT SHOW!!

  4. Jimal says:

i always thought Price was trying to stick up for the people of Dallas. But after hearing all the things going on lately with him, I wonder if he isn’t sticking it to the people of Dallas. I mean a Bentley?? Any other county commissioners rich enough to own a Bentley?? As for this mess with the journalists. I just wonder if Price had been the reporter and Shipp had been the commissioner, and Shipp had punched Price, I know that the good people of Dallas would have been marching on the courthouse steps, demanding the resignation and criminal charges against Shipp the commissioner. Lets think about this, who’s the racist here?

    1. Don "Crude" Craig says:

What Price is doing is a stick up … just like what happens to banks, it’s just the taxpayers in this case.

  5. Michael says:

John Wiley Price should be held accountable for his actions. He is a bully and does not have the best interest of the citizens of Dallas County at heart. He will soon reap what he has sown and spend several years in a Federal Correction Center located in Seagoville (Dallas County) for his many deeds.

  6. David says:

Brett Shipp, don’t be bullied by this thug.
Press charge against this public nuisance!
Do it for your legacy. Do it for Dallas. Just do it…

  7. joey brown says:

What’s jwps salary. How can he afford a Bentley?

  8. Jimal says:

Thats what I want to know. Where did he get the money for all those cars he’s reported to have??When there are people going without electricity and dying from exposure. Little kids going hungry! I think we the people should call for his resignation. Now. I mean he said himself that it was the stress and strain of the job that made him snap and punch those reporters, I think he needs to find another job in another country..

  9. Joe says:

He also has a red Ferrari and several other classic cars.

While working as a journalist about 15 years ago I was at a dinner where Price was the speaker and I sat at his table. I learned right then that he’s a man of hate. It was obvious that he hates white people, black people and Hispanic people. That man just hates.

    1. ANN says:

THE PROBLEM START WITH YOU STATING YOUR TITLE ‘JOURNALIST” DID YOU NOT LEARN IN SCHOOL THERE IS NO ROOM FOR PERSONAL OPINIONS OR FEELINGS??

AND YOUR POINT IS WHAT??? IS HE NOT ENTITLED TO PURCHASE WHAT HE WISH WITH HIS MONEY??

YES HE IS A MAN OF HATE!!! HE HATE THE RACISM AND INJUSTICE THAT CONTINUES TO BE OVERLOOKED IN THE CITY OF DALLAS!!!

I AGREE WITH YOU HE DOES HATE!!! HE HATE THE SYSTEM THAT THE MINORITY CITIZENS OF DALLAS ARE FORCED TO DEAL WITH!!!

SO YES YOU ARE CORRECT HE DOES HATE, BUT THE HATE IS NOT FOR A RACE OF PEOPLE BUT A SYSTEM THAT HAVE YOU FOOLED LIKE MOST CITIZENS OF DALLAS.

  10. David says:

A public official lies, cheats, steals, physically attacks people and no charges filed. Does he have that many people on his payroll? Is the city scared of what is really going on with all the kick backs that would be found? At some point some one must take a stand for the tax payers.

  11. Jeff D Johnson says:

Price aquired those vehicles through loopholes in the county commisioners postion that he holds. They all belonged to people that were in county jail and he had the court rule that they legally belonged to him while the owners were incarcerated.

  12. Grey Ghost says:

Mr. Shipp and Mr. Gillett, you are both part of the problem. By not filing charges against Mr. Price you have allowed him to escape any consequences for his thuggish behavior and in doing so you have enabled and emboldened him to continue to be the goon he is. Thanks for being stand-up guys.

  13. Glenn says:

    John,
Every dog has it’s day. Your’s is coming soon.

    1. ANN says:

IF HE DID AS YOU STATED WHERE DID HE LEARN THE TRICKS AND TRADE OF OF TRICKERY!!!

    2. ANN says:

AND WHAT ABOUT YOUR DAY!!! AS THE GOOD BOOK STATES “YOU WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE”!!!

IF SOMEONE DID A BACKGROUND CHECK ON YOU WHAT WOULD THEY FIND?? ARE YOU AS PURE AS THE DRIVEN SNOW??? DO YOU KNOW HAVE SKELTONS IN YOUR CLOSET??? YOU PEOPLE NEED TO STOP BEING JUDGTEMENTAL AS IF YOU WALK THE STRAIGHT AND NARROW

      1. darrell says:

hey ANN, you sound like maybe oh “mister wiley” is your sugardaddy and your drawers are in a wad because your taxpayer subsidized lifestyle is in danger. its ok though, there’s allways the police chief or any of the reverands of south dallas who have open arms.
