WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) – A North Texas school district has already eliminated an extracurricular fee it imposed just last spring.
Kids returning to class at Weatherford ISD in a few weeks were facing having to pay $60 if they wanted to be in athletics or band.
“We were going to lose about $3.2 Million, which is still the case,” says district spokesman Derik Moore.
KRLD’s Chuck Schechner Reports:
Moore says the fee has been eliminated now on word that student enrollment is up, the tax rate collection is higher and staff spent less on budget items. That means the district budget isn’t as bad as originally thought it would be.
Moore says they’re still in a budget crunch. Weatheford ISD is now in the process of refunding extracurricular fees already paid by some students.
