Everyone Has Opinion On Perry As Campaign Kicks Off

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – As Governor Rick Perry begins his first week campaigning in Iowa as an official presidential candidates, North Texans are reacting to his announcement to run.

“There was no doubt in my mind he was presidential material,” said Tarrant County GOP Chairman Stephanie Klick as she reflected on hearing the Governor’s January inaugural address.

Klick said she wasn’t surprised by Perry’s announcement to run, but she was taken off guard by the immediate requests for yard signs since the campaign hasn’t given them any yet.  In an attempt to meet demand, they used left over signs from his gubernatorial bid replacing the word Governor, with President.

One of the big issues for Republicans, Klick says, will be Perry pushing states’ rights to decide issues ahead of a personal moral stance on issues like gay marriage.

“It’s a colliding of principles, and how do you work that out?” Klick asked rhetorically. “Voters are going to have to decide whether the governor’s approach is the proper way.”

Long time Democrat campaign worker and former Tarrant County Democratic Party Chairman Art Brender says Perry’s record on economics in Texas needs deeper scrutiny.  “This whole facade of what’s happened in Texas is really no different than what’s happening around the country,” Brender said. “We’re all in this together. Its a difficult time and its certainly not a time to be balancing the budget on the back of poor people or putting people out of work.”

Konni Burton, the vice-president for the Northeast Tarrant Tea Party, said Perry won’t have an automatic approval locally just because he’s Governor of Texas “He’s not necessarily a Tea Party favorite. “We welcome him into the race. All of us grass-roots conservatives will be vetting him just as we will all of the candidates.”

      1. O.North says:

Ron Paul is looking out for the average guys interests. All of the others are looking out for there careers. Ron Pauls record speaks for itself. If you love America, then support Ron Paul, rep or dem doesnt matter.

  2. CH says:

We have a praying president and wonderful things are happenning, open your eyes honey. Rick Perry will throw this country back 50 years. This is the same guy less than a year ago who was touting succession from the United States. He also tried to push thru the mandatory HPV vaccine so he rich buddies could get wealthier from the mandatory administering of the vaccine.
WAKE UP! Rick Perry ain’t the 1.

    1. altha says:

Oh Perry is a real bow-wow.

  3. jerry says:

Bush was a praying President. If Perry is elected, we will all be praying. He certainly left the teachers with only a prayer. j

  4. Maria Venegas says:

  5. bob says:

Rick Perry Is not presidential material…Perry is the nation’s biggest Political con artist….Ron Paul the only decent, honest and trustworty man to run for the Republican Presidential leadership…

You the media need to stop brain washing the american people…

    1. altha says:

he is not brainwashing all the American people only the one’s that love to listen to lies.

  6. Paulette says:

How the heck do you think he would make a good President? One, he’s a lousy govenor, two, he’s a turncoat and three and perhaps the most important – isn’t this the same fool that just wanted to secede from the country? How the heck do you think he has the country’s interest foremost? You Texans are stupid as hell!

    1. altha says:

Paulette, I live in Texas I know Perry is a liar he’s trying to make people believe he has created so many jobs in this state. Yes he has created jobs a very few and they are low-paying and lack of benefits. But! we have so many jealous White’s in Texas will vote for Sarah Palin, a woman who can hardly read. Anything, anybody as long as they can get Obama out of the White House.

  7. Amanda says:

People are commenting that Rick Perry should not be president because he threatened to secede from the US. He did not threaten this because he hates America. He loves her! He would not have called a day of prayer for America if he didn’t. He threatened to secede mainly due to his dislike of Obama’s policies and regulations like the EPA. As far as Rick Perry being against teachers, not true. I am a teacher and I do not blame him. I blame the federal government which is where the education funding comes from. I may not like everything about Rick Perry and I am not saying I am voting for him. I am undecided on which Republican I am backing. All I know is I am voting Obama OUT of office!

  8. Amanda says:

Altha, you need to go back to school and learn how to write a complete sentence using appropriate punctuation and grammar before you start commenting on others’ ability to read! Also, you need to get your facts straight. There are MANY valid reasons as to why we want Obama out of the White House!

  9. LifeLongRepublican says:

He called for a day of prayer to gauge support his run for President. I don’t doubt he loves America but so did the previous governor elected President from Texas. I would never vote for Rick Perry again he lies to get into office and then forgets his promises. He’s as dumb as George Bush. Wake up school teacher. Blind allegiance is not healthy!!!

    1. Shane says:

No man or woman will ever be able to run things right. So you wake up. I see where she said ” I may not like everything about Rick Perry and I am not saying I am voting for him” that is not blind allegiance. Obviously your like the rest of this nation and has lost their respect for teachers and actually reading between the lines. Have a good day.

  10. Amanda says:

I respect your opinion, just like you should respect mine. However, your statement, “Blind allegiance is not healthy!” offends me. I do not have allegience to anyone but God. I do NOT have allegience to Rick Perry or any other person that runs this country or a state. I feel sorry for those that relish in the putting of false idols on a “pedestal”. So, no I do not have “blind allegience” so I guess that makes me “healthy”. Like I stated above if you would have thoroughly read it, I may NOT be voting for him because I am UNDECIDED.

  11. LifeLongRepublican says:

I have the upmost respect for teachers. I have teachers, principals and school administrators in my family. Saying you blame the Federal government for Texas schools failure is ludicrous. People scream that the Fed is too big but then scream and cry because they think the government is not doing enough. You can’t have your cake and eat it too…..
Rick Perry is not the 1!!!!

  12. Repug says:

Perry, like Bachman, genuinely scare me. They are both intellectually handicapped; they see the world in black and white and right and wrong and wear their oppressive, religious values on their shirtsleeves. I just hope the majority of the people who do vote are not of the same mindset.
I’m amazed when I hear citizens and candidates alike, blame Obama for the current economic situation. Really?
THis situation has been years in the making, and it is frightening to see how many people don’t get that.

  13. Tom Bensen says:

I can’t believe someone who claims to be a teacher states that just because Perry wanted Texas to secede from the union doesn’t mean he hates the country. I guess the Confederates loved this country, they just didn’t want to be a part of it.
Anyone who can support Perry needs their head examined.
I am a registered Republican too.
Amanda if you indeed are a teacher it must be 1st grade because you aren’t smarter than a 3rd grader.

  14. Scott says:

Everyone can relax! Bank of America supports Rick Perry!

Luckily, Bank of America is too big to fail and has PLENTY of $$$ to help Rick Perry. Don’t worry BOA, Perry will make sure that you are never “too small to succeed” like the American People are…
