DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An overturned 18-wheeler created a huge traffic nightmare on Wednesday morning. The incident happened just before 12:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate-35E, north of Colorado Boulevard, on the Trinity River Bridge near downtown Dallas.
According to emergency officials on the scene, the driver said that he heard a pop sound as he approached a curve in the road. The truck’s load shifted and the truck overturned at the curve, coming down on top of a concrete median.
The truck was carrying small plastic pellets used in manufacturing plastic products. This load, contained in several large white bags, needed to be removed from the truck before any cleanup could begin. There was also a fuel leak caused by the crash.
Northbound traffic was down to one lane throughout much of the morning. All lanes were shut down at about 8:30 a.m. as two cranes were brought in to lift the truck back up off of the median. That process has been completed and traffic is running in multiple lanes once again.
