IRVING (AP)  Dave Rayner has joined the congested kicking competition with the Dallas Cowboys.

Rayner arrived Tuesday, a day after being cut by the Detroit Lions. He joins a mix that includes incumbent David Buehler, recent arrival Shayne Graham and undrafted rookie Dan Bailey.

A fifth candidate is another undrafted rookie, Kai Forbath. He went on the non-football injury list Tuesday, along with rookie linebacker Bruce Carter.

Rayner made 13 of 16 field goals for the Lions last year. He believes the Cowboys are going to give him a chance to make their roster, saying they wouldn’t have brought him in otherwise.

Dallas coach Jason Garrett wouldn’t say how the kicking duties would be spread around in the preseason finale Thursday night against Miami.
