2 People Still Missing In Central Texas Wildfires
BASTROP (AP) – Authorities say they have accounted for all but two of the residents affected by a massive Central Texas wildfire, and the number of homes destroyed is holding steady for now.
Bastrop County Sheriff Terry Pickering said Monday officials aren’t sure the two remaining people live in the area full-time and therefore aren’t concerned that they haven’t turned up.
County Judge Ronnie McDonald said the number of destroyed homes remained at 1,554, and the fire was 60 percent contained. McDonald said there were more than 1,300 firefighters battling blazes that have destroyed more than 34,000 acres.
Classes resumed Monday in the Bastrop school district about 25 miles east of Austin. The district website lists resources for wildfire victims including counseling, clothing, food and information on missing pets.
