Sandie’s Arts Blog: The Bard
How about a little Shakespeare this weekend? THE TEMPEST is a one act wonder as adapted by our Dallas Theater Center. The striking all white set has the Shakespeare classic stranded on a desert island a la LOST after a plane crash – an intriguing update from the Bard’s original shipwrecked tragedy. And one of the best parts about the production is the pricing! To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Project Discovery – which helps fund student theater arts programs – all seats are $25.00 and under with some as low as $15.00! That’s not much more than the cost of a movie!! It continues at the Wyly though October 9th.
And speaking of movies – how about a free movie this Friday night?! Two-weeks ahead of its October 14th release, Paramount Pictures will host exclusive advance screenings as part of “FOOTLOOSE FRIDAY” in celebration of the nationwide opening. The Dallas area screening will be at Rave Ridgemar this Friday night at 7p. Admission is free. Visit FootlooseFriday.com to RSVP for your exclusive screening pass.
And perhaps the biggest event this week? Why the opening of our State Fair of Texas of course!! The world famous State Fair opens this weekend with more fun excitement and great fried food than ever before! Big Tex has new duds and there are many new attractions this year including fried Caesar salad! West Side Story is the official musical of the State Fair and as always the Dallas Summer Musicals season will close out with one of the greats – the Tony award winning revival opens Tuesday Oct 4th and continues through October 23rd. best part? You can enjoy a corny dog as a pre-theater treat!
And don’t forget – this is the last weekend to get groovy at HAIR! The Tony award winning production comes to us directly from Broadway and is currently at the AT&T Performing Arts Center through this Sunday. So get those bell bottoms out of storage and have some 60’s style style fun!
See you next week…center stage!
