FRISCO (AP) Longtime NBA coach Del Harris is the new coach of the Texas Legends in the NBDL.

The 74-year-old Harris was general manager of the Mavericks’ D-League affiliate in its inaugural season last year. He will keep that job, too.

Nancy Lieberman coached the team last season, becoming the first woman to coach men in a professional basketball league. She is moving into the front office this season. Former Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl was wooed for the job, but he turned it down.

Harris guided the Rockets to the NBA finals in 1981, and was the NBA’s coach of the year in 1995 with the Lakers. He also coached the Bucks.

Del Harris. Wow, there’s a name that brings back memories. I’m looking at my team autographed group photo of the 1979-1980 Rockets right now in my office. That was the best gift for my 9th birthday that year.

He had silver hair even back then!
