Hit-And-Run Driver Sends Dallas Officer To Hospital

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Dallas police officer was released from the hospital hours after a red light runner slammed into his police cruiser without stopping to help early Sunday morning.

Department spokeswoman Sherri Jeffrey said Sr. Cpl. Charles Fleming was headed westbound in the 5200 block of Forest Lane when a driver in a late 1990s or early 2000s model navy blue Chevrolet or GMC truck ran the light at Inwood Drive and collided with the cruiser.

Jeffrey said the side of the man’s truck was heavily damaged and the driver fled the scene on two flat tires.

The suspect is a 50-year-old black man who stands 6’4 and weighs about 250 pounds. The truck suffered “severe damage” to its passenger side. The truck has side trim, a metal front bumper and metal tube rails on the cargo bed.

Jeffrey said police were able to get a visual of the truck from the red light camera at Inwood Drive.

Fleming was taken to Baylor Hospital and released hours later.

exactly how do you tell how tall someone is while they’re sitting down? and you can only see them from about the mid chest up? I look much taller in my truck that I actually am because of the way I have the seats positioned…if they run his plate number, and got his info from his liscense, why don’t they just arrest him instead of giving a description that fits a high percentage of Dallasites….duh

how else do you think they were able to say how tall he was…. Idiot actually got out of the truck after the accident, got back in and took off… i mean DUH…. are you really that slow? on top of the fact they got such a good description of the vehicle as to even mention the damn tube rails on the cargo bed on top of being able to discern whether it was an extended cab or an extended cab…. and not just from the traffic camera… which apparently did little good in this aspect since theres no mention of the plate number in the article… that or its probably a phony plate belonging to another vehicle….
