Downtown Dallas Ferris Wheel Idea Runs Into Opposition

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) – A proposed 20-story Ferris wheel for downtown Dallas could be grounded.

The 174-foot wheel has been proposed for Founders Plaza, near the JFK memorial and the Old Red Courthouse on the west side of downtown.

But the proposed site currently has a memorial for fallen sheriff’s deputies.

A leader with the Honor 19 Memorial said the tourist attraction would be disrespectful.

County leaders claim the wheel is an educational attraction.

Dallas County Commissioners vote on the proposal next week.
