Perry Opposes Confederate License Plates In Texas

AUSTIN (AP) – Gov. Rick Perry says he opposes his state allowing specialty license plates featuring the Confederate flag, despite his past defense of the historical value of Confederate symbols.

Perry told Bay News 9’s “Political Connections” in Tampa, Fla. and the St. Petersburg Times on Wednesday, “we don’t need to be opening old wounds.”

The plates have been requested by the Sons of Confederate Veterans, a nonprofit Perry has supported over the years.  The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles could vote on the plate next month. Perry appointed the board that decides.

Granvel Block, of the Texas division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, says the group will sue if denied.

I agree. Much like I believe you are of the ilk comprised of inbred, drunken morons who refuse to advance beyond old ways of thought. Hey, you aren’t advancing your way of life – you and radical Muslims have something in common. Congrats, hillbilly!

By the way, your White Power stuff is really infantile. Didn’t the former leader of The National Alliance and host of American Dissident Voices get put away for child porn?

That’s right, I know a lot about you ignoramuses. I used to be one.

  2. OutlawCajun says:

Hey, Perry, oppoce our history to score political points, we’ll oppose you in the primaries.

  3. Victor Von Doum says:

Then secede again and get the flock out of the Real America. You know the Real America: the one that doesn’t support SLAVERY or its symbols? Yeah, that one.

Buh-bye, hillbilly boy. Take Dumbya and Ricky Bobby witchya.

  4. CATCH THE WAVE says:

Mr. PERRY, YOU MAY HAVE APPOINTED THE BOARD THAT WILL DECIDE IF THE PLATES WILL BE ISSUED FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO BUY THEM, BUT YOU CAN NOT APPOINT WHO BELIEVES IN TEXAS HISTORY.

Seems like Perry’s image people are working overtime on him. Too bad CBS 11 can’t bring out that picture of him waving a 6 gun in the air again. That’s my favorite!

  7. darrell says:

the confederate flag is not now and never has been a symbol of racism or slavery except to those who want to hold it up as one. those people are racist themselves for doing so. it will make a fine plate and i intend to get one.

    1. altha says:

without a job you can’t get one oh you will steal it from someone else living in the trailer park.

    2. Darrell, do you even read what you're typing?! says:

Right. On a similar note, the swastika was a symbol of Germany’s economic revival and national pride. It had nothing to do with genocide and the near extinction of the Jewish people. Those who make it symbolize such are the true bigots.

      1. darrell says:

its amazing at the number of people who claim such knowledge of history but know so little of their own.

what most people call the confederate flag wasnt. it existed long before the civil war and had nothing to do with slavery or racism. throughout time again and again we have seen how the victors allways write history to fit their needs. thats whats happened here. only a racist would believe that this symbol was created to be used as a symbol of racism.

  8. ELTORO says:

HEY Perry lets find out why the TEXAS GOVERNORS mansion burnt and the
tax payers are paying to keep your sorry self in a luxury mansion . In
a statement by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, that Perry “lives in a luxury house that costs taxpayers $10,000 a month.”
You are really after betterment for the people. I mean the peoples pocketbook.

    1. darrell says:

perry wasnt living in the mansion at the time of the fire. it had allready been closed for a deferred maintenance project that had started the previous january.

  9. RussP says:

I’m more offended by people and businesses which fly a foreign flag while living or doing business on US soil. Driving down some business districts, I feel like I’ve left the US and entered Mexico.
