DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Sex, drugs, rock and roll and music videos. The story behind MTV is fascinating, and as the network hits age 30 Rob Tannenbum and Craig Marks have a new book out about the history of the funky little TV channel that could.
MTV (Music Television), was born and is still based in New York City. It launched on August 1, 1981.
The original purpose of the channel was to play music videos guided by on-air hosts known as VJs. Over the years it has become everything entertainment – from award shows (Mtv Music Awards, Mtv Movie Awards) to reality shows (Real World, Road Rules, Jersey Shore) to cartoons (Beavis & Butthead) and much more.
Author Rob Tannenbum talked about the network’s history and future with KRLD’s Mitch Carr.
