DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Hundreds of protesters from the Highland Hills area of South Dallas marched across the Houston Street Viaduct into downtown Dallas Saturday. They object to the city’s plan to greatly expand the amount of garbage going to the nearby McCommas Bluff Landfill.
The marchers say that’s their neighborhood, and no one asked them if that’s what they want.
Marchers also say they’ve asked they city for grocery stores, recreation centers, and business development. Not one of them has ever asked for more garbage.
They say city leaders acted too fast, and without considering what would be best for the area.
The demonstrators want a six month moratorium to study the expansion before city leaders decide what needs to be done.
