CPS Investigating Child Left At Daycare

WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) – A toddler left at a North Texas daycare has been placed in foster care while Child Protective Services (CPS) investigates.

The Weatherford daycare center called police after the 1-year old girl wasn’t picked up. Police called in CPS.

CPS spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales said the circumstances surrounding the incident were simply out of the ordinary.

“This is a daycare that provides care overnight, but it was a little unusual that no one had come to pick up this little girl and they weren’t able to get a hold of the grandmother,” she said.

Gonzales said the foster care decision was made as a sort of precaution. “The grandmother did show up later on, but we went ahead and decided to keep her in foster care at least temporarily, until we can figure out what’s been going on.”

According to CPS, the grandmother has sole custody of the child.

A court hearing concerning the incident and child’s welfare is expected to take place within the next two weeks.

    standard CPS proceedure.
CPS rule number 1: if we find any excuse at all no matter how trivial to get you into our system and crawl all up your (ass) we are going to take it.
CPS rule number 2: the only way we can justify our jobs and justify budget increases is to get more people into the system.
before you all start posting hate comments, i have seen CPS do the right thing many times. just as many times ive seen them destroy families without justification just because of the attitude of the investigators, and just as many times know about and ignore situations where kids should have been removed and/or charges files and they did nothing. CPS in texas is at best dysfunctional and needs serious overhall.

Would you rather them do nothing and a case of child neglect or abuse go unchecked. It is there job to make sure children are safe. I agree that there have been sometimes when they have erred in how they handled the case. That doesn’t mean, however, that they should just stand around and do nothing. Furthermore, we need to be careful about judging this situation until more facts come out. Furthermore, part of the problem is probably that CPS is underfunded and understaffed It also isn’t always CPS’s fault if nothing is done. Sometimes there hands are probably tied by judges in family court.

I know that I have loved ones who family judges made visit there non-custodial parents in a very emotionally abusive atmosphere. Emotional abuse can be very damaging, but the courts won’t usually investigate those kind of crimes. They are so backlogged with abuse cases which is why this apparently happens.

i never said, suggested or implied that they should stand around and do nothing if they suspect or know of abuse. all too often however real abuse is ignored, skirted around or mishandled while at the same time countless hours and dollars are wasted on chasing pointless suspicions. in this case i think the police failed to follow through with a proper investigation prior to calling cps. there is no revenue is chasing missing grandmothers of little kids. thats out on the highway or the school zones.

It amazes me that this woman drugs the children she is caring for but people posting on here want to blame it on the parents and single moms… When does the blame get focused back on the one responsible?

    1. darrell says:

where do you get this info about someone drugging kids in this particular instance?

    2. 2sister says:

Eva, there is nothing in the article that suggests that. Are you referring to the case that came out about the director that drugged kids? If so, that is a totally different story.
