WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW.COM) – A toddler left at a North Texas daycare has been placed in foster care while Child Protective Services (CPS) investigates.
The Weatherford daycare center called police after the 1-year old girl wasn’t picked up. Police called in CPS.
CPS spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales said the circumstances surrounding the incident were simply out of the ordinary.
“This is a daycare that provides care overnight, but it was a little unusual that no one had come to pick up this little girl and they weren’t able to get a hold of the grandmother,” she said.
Gonzales said the foster care decision was made as a sort of precaution. “The grandmother did show up later on, but we went ahead and decided to keep her in foster care at least temporarily, until we can figure out what’s been going on.”
According to CPS, the grandmother has sole custody of the child.
A court hearing concerning the incident and child’s welfare is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
