NORMAN, OK (AP)  While No. 5 Oklahoma sat idle over the weekend, the Sooners’ chances to play for a national championship got a big boost.

Losses by previously unbeaten Stanford and Boise State moved Oklahoma (8-1, 5-1 Big 12) up to fifth in the BCS standings with a head-to-head meeting still to come against No. 2 Oklahoma State on Dec. 3.

Coach Bob Stoops says he started the week by telling his players what could lie ahead if they win out in their final three-game stretch. He first wants them to focus on Saturday night’s game at No. 25 Baylor (6-3, 3-3).

The Sooners lost at home against Texas Tech and another loss would certainly wipe away their newly regained national championship chances.
