View Comments

‘Tis the season to start enjoying all of the wonderful holiday entertainment North Texas has to offer…and there is plenty!

First up – families will enjoy the very best in holiday entertainment for all ages at the Dallas Children’s Theater. Tchaikovsky’s holiday masterpiece THE NUTCRACKER is magically brought to life with dazzling puppetry and stunning special effects. A critically acclaimed staging that is guaranteed to be a sell-out! Kathy Burks – Theatre of Puppetry Arts continues thru 12/22 at the Dallas Children’s Theater as well as MADELEINE’S CHRISTMAS – a charming holiday production complete with many fine local young actors!

If you are looking for a classic ballet production then look no further than our Texas Ballet Theater’s annual production. Ben Stevenson’s The Nutcracker performs this weekend at AT&T Performing Arts Center: Winspear Opera House and it’s a very special treat!  This critically-acclaimed production tells the story of Clara and her magical Nutcracker Prince as they embark on a thrilling adventure. Along the way, they encounter a Christmas tree that grows 40 feet, toy soldiers battling mischievous mice, waltzing flowers, dancing candy, and sparkling, swirling snowflakes that fall on dancers and audience alike.

While in the Dallas Arts District make sure you do not miss Tony Cragg: Seeing Things at the Nasher Sculpture Center. This show is the first U.S. museum exhibition in nearly 20 years of the work of the award-winning, internationally acclaimed artist. The exhibition features about 30 sculptures dating from 1993 to the present. The exhibit will continue to be on view through Jan 8.

Make sure you bring out the whole family to the Winspear Opera House this Friday night for the 2nd Annual Tree Lighting Festival.  There will lots of free entertainment as the lights on the large tree are officially turned on at 7p by the cast of the upcoming show THE JERSEY BOYS.

Fort Worth’s beautiful Bass Performance Hall will be dressed for the holidays this weekend as the classic IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS comes to the grand stage,.  The popular holiday film is brought to life for the very first time in North Texas with all of the memorable tunes like “White Christmas” – a not to be missed new holiday tradition!

Looking ahead to next week – Titas will be bringing some of the most impressive talent ever gathered on one stage to the Winspear Opera House for A GATHERING – an evening of dance, music and love – all to benefit local AIDS charities.  Curtain is at 7p – please join in the spirit of giving at this time of year and enjoy some of the finest entertainment North Texas has to offer.

See you next week… center stage!
