DENTON (AP) – Police say a forklift accident at a North Texas business has left a worker dead.

Denton police say the accident happened Friday morning when the forklift overturned.

Police told the Denton Record-Chronicle that the man, whose name wasn’t immediately released, had dropped off a pallet in the parking lot of the business. Police say the worker was backing away when a wheel on the forklift got stuck in a pothole.

Police say the man tried to free the equipment and raised the forks. Investigators say the machine’s weight shifted, causing the forklift to overturn.

The driver tried to jump to safety but was caught beneath the machine.
