Plano Businesses Helping Fashion Writer Injured By Propeller
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) – A Plano woman who was injured one week ago by an airplane’s propeller is receiving help from area businesses.
At the age of 23, Lauren Scruggs has already made an impression on the fashion scene.
A model and the editor of the online LoLo Magazine, she’s promoted local and independent businesses.
“I actually met her when she came to do a piece on our store,” said Janna Mathena, the owner of Gameday Cloth in Plano.
Janna Mathena says Scruggs was a familiar face for many shop owners, making the news of her tragic accident all the more stunning.
“It’s shocking, and you kind of wonder how it happened,” said Mathena.
Last Saturday, Scruggs walked off a single engine airplane and into its propeller, which severed her left hand and cut deeply into her face and shoulder.
“I thought I’d like to find a way to help her,” said Greg Bohn, the owner of Spa Habitat, which Scruggs was set to feature in a future article.
With Mathena, Bohn helped organize the Love for Lauren rally Saturday – with more than a dozen shops collecting donations.
“Some are giving a large percent of their proceeds, some are just giving a flat amount, some are just putting out a jar for people to donate,” said Bohn.
The businesses are hoping their donations put a dent in Lauren’s medical bills, helping her like she once helped them.
Online, they’re also gathering messages of encouragement, supporting a woman many here considered a friend.
“She was very infectious and genuine and sweet,” said Mathena. “She really is that good of a person.”
