PROSPER (AP) — Some motorists stopped by police in one North Texas town have been getting a pleasant holiday surprise.
Police in Prosper have been stopping some local drivers found to be heeding traffic rules, especially in school zones, and giving the drivers $10 gift cards.
In a statement, Assistant Police Chief Gary McHone says the cards have been given out all week, with Friday the last day. McHone says the gesture is the Prosper Police Department’s way of saying thanks to law-abiding drivers.
Money for the program comes from the department’s contribution fund, which is funded through community events.
Prosper is a fast-growing town of about 10,000 residents 30 miles north of Dallas.
