Police: Wheel & Spare Tire Thefts On The Rise In 2 Cities
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – There’s a new warning for SUV and pickup truck owners in two North Texas cities.
Over the past week police in Richardson say they have they seen a spike in the number of spare tires being stolen from underneath vehicles.
Between December 28 and January 4 there have been seven spare tire thefts across the city.
All of the tires are believed to have been taken either overnight or in the early morning hours.
Warnings have been sent out to neighborhood groups alerting residents to the danger.

The warning in Richardson comes one day after police in Coppell reported an increase in tire thefts in their city.
According to officials, there have been 25 wheel/tire thefts in Coppell since April 2011. In a number of the Coppell thefts the criminal/criminals used jacks to raise the vehicle and remove the wheels and tires.
Information on the city’s website said Coppell police are coordinating with other cities experiencing the same problem.
