AUSTIN (AP) - A nonprofit foundation has donated $500,000 to help out the financially strapped Texas state parks system, which faces a $4.6 million revenue shortfall this year.
A statement issued Wednesday by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced the donation by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation. The donation comes on top of more than $460,000 raised since the Parks and Wildlife Department appealed for help Dec. 6.
The system is beleaguered by attendance losses resulting from heat, drought and wildfires.
