DART Hosts Tweet Chat On Route Changes

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Changes are in the works for Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus and train riders and that has some routes changing and others going away completely.

DART officials say the changes are needed to accommodate the opening of the DART Rail Orange Line to Irving in July and the December extensions of both the Blue Line and the Orange Line.

“The first part of the Orange Line is going to open from Bachman Station, which is in northwest Dallas on the Green Line, going to the Las Colinas Convention Center and that happens July 30,” explained DART spokesman Morgan Lyons.

DART officials say the reduction, elimination and creation of new routes isn’t being taken lightly and public input is important.

There are a series of meetings, where public comment can be made, scheduled before the final hearing on January 24. For those who can’t attend those sessions DART used social media to encourage customer feedback.

DART hosted a Tweet chat Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Staff members answered questions posed from the public and logged customer feedback.

Questions and comments during the chat are official and will be included as a part of the public record regarding the proposed bus service changes.

Before the event Lyons encouraged the public to, “Send us a Tweet via @dartmedia, that’s our Twitter handle. The hash tag, where you can follow the conversation, is #2012DART.”

As it stands, the route changes are scheduled to take place on July 30 and December 3.
