New Technique Has Become Bass Fishing Craze
MONTGOMERY, AL (AP) – A new bass fishing craze has hit the waterways.
The Alabama Rig and similar devices it has spawned have hooked plenty of fishermen in recent months. Alabama lure company owner Jack Tibbs calls it “the biggest thing to come along in fishing since probably the rod and reel.”
Alabama fisherman Andy Poss invented the Alabama Rig, which has a wire harness leading to five baits and can catch multiple fish on one cast.
It’s a downsized version of umbrella rigs used in saltwater fishing to catch striped bass by mimicking small schools of bait fish.
The devices are so effective they’re banned on Elite Series tournaments, including this weekend’s Bassmaster Classic in Shreveport, La.
They’re selling so fast an Arkansas tackle company was able to rehire temporarily laid-off workers early.
