FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Balloons, flowers and notes mark the spot in southeast Fort Worth where a fatal Friday collision left two teenagers dead.

Ivan Torres, 17, died at John Peter Smith Hospital on Saturday. His passenger, 15-year-old Jeanette Lopez, died at the scene.

A Fort Worth Police Department accident report says Torres was driving his truck along Mitchell Blvd. with two female passengers when he crossed the center lane and veered head on into a maroon colored Chevrolet Avalanche.

Lopez was pronounced dead on location while Torres died from his injuries Saturday afternoon.

All four people in the Avalanche were hospitalized and released.

Close friends say Torres had told them he was going to stop racing before the accident occurred.

“Come to find out he doing it again and this is what happened,” said Terrance Dalworth, a friend. “You know, taking too many chances and now it’s still hurting. It’s touching my heart.”

I think the area police departments need to step up the education in area high schools about wreckless driving. Maybe show video interviews about what happens to your family after a horrible accident like this. I know growing up in Fort Worth a few eye opening post auto accident drivers ed films made me think. STOP with the accident site memorials . Do something more positive like organizing groups on safe and responsible teen driiving.

All the balloons, flowers and notes need to be thrown away and instead a sign left that says “this is what happens when you make stupid decisions”.

Are people trying to celebrate this ignorance and murder?
