GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) – Police say a husband targeted his wife and another woman outside the Winewood Grill Saturday before he turned the gun on himself.

At about 10 p.m., Donald Walz, 57, approached his wife Georgia Walz, also 57, and another woman while they sat inside a parked car outside the restaurant.

Witnesses told investigators that someone fired about five shots, hitting both women. Initially, police believed that Donald Walz was a victim and began searching for a suspect until a late-night investigation found otherwise.

Donald Walz died outside the vehicle, Sgt. Robert Eberling said.

When officers arrived, they took both the victims to area hospitals. Georgia Walz has been moved to a Fort Worth-area hospital while the second woman, who has not been identified, was stabilized and taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Police are still investigating the crime, but sources close to the investigation say they were in the midst of a divorce. Those who work in the neighborhood were stunned by the crime.

“Certainly I was shocked,” said Dr. Chad Hogan, who works nearby. “It’s not something that we typically will see in this kind of an area and in this kind of community. The restaurants are very nice and well-enjoyed, so that’s very surprising.”

Georgia Walz’s condition is not known.
