DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Two new polls show Newt Gingrich is running third place in a state that he needs to win badly — Alabama.

Voters go to the polls on Tuesday in Alabama and Mississippi. Political analysts say Gingrich needs to win both of these southern states if he wants to show that his candidacy is still viable.

In an Alabama state survey, Rick Santorum leads with 23 percent. Mitt Romney is second with 19 percent. Gingrich is third with 14 percent. The pollsters did not ask about Ron Paul’s support.

In another poll by the Alabama Education Association, Romney leads with 31 percent. Santorum has 22 percent, Gingrich has 21 percent and Paul has just six percent. Twenty percent said that they were undecided.

Gingrich won his home state of Georgia during Super Tuesday, but did not carry any other state. He has vowed to stay in the race until the end.

Mitt Romney is the most viable candidate and the candidate that will beat Obama in November.

I agree totally! Mitt will get it done for the US. He will take it from the Obama mad man

  • Rick

I might also add that the the only reason Mitt has not sealed up the primary election is because the idiot GOP changed the rules for the 2012 primary election. They actually wanted this to drag on to avoid having a quick winner. What? That has proven to be a terrible idea! It has opened up the crazy 24 hr news cycle to talk and talk about how the election sucks and the GOP does not have a good candidate. If the GOP would have just left well enough alone, we would see the GOP coming together and backing a front runner. Instead we see madness and networks refusing to speak about the rule change because it gets better ratings to rip on the candidates. drama drama drama

Oh ya, OK, just one more comment,,,Can’t resist Hey Newt, GO HOME!

LOL…polls today show Gingrich ahead in both states. Romney can go back to being his real self-a liberal

  • John

Mitt Romney is clearly the best candidate to beat Obama in the general election. We need to set a national period of debate among the GOP candidates and have a national primary election for the GOP in which every state votes the same day. That would put this nonsense to an an end and allow us time to focus on defeating the current inhabitant of the White House.
