American Airlines Jet Returns To Airport With Engine Trouble

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP/CBSDFW.COM) — A Dallas-bound American Airlines flight returned to the Portland, Ore., airport 25 minutes after takeoff early Tuesday morning.

KGW-TV reports the flight experienced an engine compressor problem.

Port of Portland spokesman Steve Johnson says the flight departed at 6 a.m. and returned to the gate at 6:25 a.m., surrounded by airport crash trucks.

The plane, an MD 80, taxied back to the tarmac under its own power.

American is based in Fort Worth.

i will bet you this aircraft is an old md’80..american has had many maintenance issues within the last year or so (before bankruptcy) which involved an aborted takeoff or returning to the gate, or even a diversion..its good the bankruptcy court is allowing the purchase of new aircraft as the md 80’s are all very old and tired!
