DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) – High water from the morning’s torrential rain put a couple of Denton County maintenance workers in a bizarre situation Tuesday.

The two workers were performing road repairs along Hickory Creek Road near Country Club Lane in Denton Tuesday afternoon when a creek came out of its banks and started rising.

Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Penaluna says the two staffers managed to get to a high spot, but they ended up stranded and surrounded by water.

“They were quickly working to retrieve some road repair equipment, but not quite fast enough so they got cutoff,” Penaluna said.

He says they didn’t want to send rescuers into the swift water, and the employees escaped through some thick woods while waiting for the water to recede.

They workers are scraped up, but otherwise OK. Penaluna says the area is prone to flash flooding.
