HOUSTON (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry is delivering an economic speech he promises will detail key Texas budget principles for next year and beyond.
Perry is in Houston on Monday to speak at New World Van Lines Inc.
The Legislature doesn’t reconvene until January, but Perry spokeswoman Lucy Nashed says “it’s never too early to start looking at these issues.”
She says that heading into next year, the governor wants to make clear to lawmakers what must be done to ensure the state will be in good financial shape.
Legislators, who are obligated by law to balance the state budget amid huge revenue shortfalls, cut nearly $15 billion in state spending last year.
