FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - They’re not sure where they’re going, or when, but Misty and Eric Emery decided not to wait for the bad news. The cleaned out the house for a garage sale Friday. Their sale, though, was advertised as an “American Airlines Layoff Sale.”
They drew a sad face on the bright pink signs they set up on street corners and in front of their Fort Worth home. Eric has worked as a mechanic for American for 14 years.
He was laid off when American had to avoid bankruptcy in 2003. He worked at the Alliance maintenance facility until transferring to DFW last year.
The parents of two said they have no confidence his job will still be there when American comes out of bankruptcy this time.
“It’s coming,” Misty said. “We all know it’s coming and there’s no way around it.”
