Dallas Trial Begins For 2009 Murder Case
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A capital murder trial is set to get underway on Tuesday at the Frank Crowley Courts Building in downtown Dallas. Roderick Harris is accused of killing two brothers for $2 in March 2009. The 27-year-old could face the death penalty if the jury finds him guilty of the crime.
Harris allegedly shot and killed Alfredo and Carlos Gallardo as they tried to protect family members. According to Alfredo Gallardo’s widow, Harris confronted her husband outside of the family’s home, forcing family members — including three young children — into a bathroom. The family was then tied up as the gunman demanded money, but they only had $2 at the time.
That is when, police said, the two brothers were shot.
“Why did he have to take the lives of two people who had kids and family?” wondered family member Maria Sifuentes.
Testimony is set to begin in the trial on Tuesday morning.
