DENTON (AP) - Former Arizona State and Mississippi men’s basketball coach Rob Evans will be an assistant on Tony Benford’s new staff at North Texas.
Evans joins the Mean Green after spending last season at TCU and the previous four years at Arkansas. He recruited Benford to play at Texas Tech, where he spent 15 years as an assistant.
Benford and Evans coached together for eight seasons at Arizona State.
Evans has more than 40 years of coaching experience. He started his career under Lou Henson at New Mexico State in 1969 and spent 24 years as an assistant before taking over the Ole’ Miss program in 1992.
Evans has a 205-201 record in 14 seasons as a head coach.
