McKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) – A Collin County man learns his punishment after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a child and two counts of indecency with a child.

A jury sentenced Harold Clarrett to 15 years in prison on each of the counts. Th3 41-year-old man will serve the sentences concurrently.

Clarrett pled guilty to the charges and allowed a jury to decide his sentence.

During testimony in the sentencing trial, that lasted three days, recounted how during the summer and fall of 2010 Clarrett had sex with a 14-year-old relative.

Clarrett, a Melissa resident, later confessed to police that he’d had the sexual relationship with the child. During further discussions with police Clarrett rationalized his behavior by saying he was satisfying the girl’s sexual urges so she wouldn’t get pregnant.

The victim, now 16, had reportedly spent her life living with various relatives and had lived with Clarrett, of and on, since she was six-years-old.

For his crimes the jury also fined Clarrett $10,000 for each count.
