Michael Jackson Sued Again

GALVESTON (AP) - A federal judge will hear a second day of testimony in Galveston on Tuesday as a voter advocacy group seeks an order to block some provisions of the Texas election law.

The national nonpartisan, nonprofit group Project Vote wants U.S. District Judge Gregg Costa to stop, at least temporarily, election law provisions regulating large-scale, community-based voter registration efforts.

Project Vote Executive Director Michael Slater says his group won’t run voter registration drives because the law makes volunteers vulnerable to fraud allegations for minor lapses or errors. The Galveston County Daily News reports he also said provisions, ironically, make it harder to spot genuine fraud.

The group sued Texas Secretary of State Hope Andrade and Galveston County Voter Registrar Cheryl Johnson in February. Andrade and Johnson deny the allegations.
