FORT WORTH (AP) - A former North Texas lawyer sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing more than $200,000 from clients is out after only a few months.

The Fort Worth Star-Telgram reports a judge says Donald Driver appeared to be a likely candidate for “shock probation.” The rarely used early-release program was designed for first-time offenders who don’t get into trouble in prison.

Driver in early 2012 pleaded guilty and was sentenced for misappropriating client funds and falsely holding himself out as a lawyer.

State District Judge Everett Young on Monday ordered the 61-year-old Driver released. Driver testified he’s learned his lesson and hopes to find a job so he can repay his victims.

A prosecutor couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
