DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – The Texas Department of Transportation is trying to help families headed out for that Summer road trip with an interactive online map of the state that shows areas where road work could be a problem.
DriveTexas.org is being launched as a way to help drivers plan their trips before they head out. The map allows you to zoom into certain areas and check on the status of road construction projects on roads across the state.
Road work areas appear in orange, accidents in red. The web site also gives the option of a weather overlay that will let drivers know if there is rain where they are headed.
TxDot’s Mark Pettit says the web site can be launched on smart phones, but it does not exist as it’s own application yet. Pettit says the site will evolve and become more user-friendly in the coming weeks and months. To help reach that goal, DriveTexas.org has a section where drivers can provide feedback.
