ARLINGTON (AP) – Texas Rangers left-hander Derek Holland is going to Triple-A Round Rock for two rehabilitation starts.
The Rangers say Holland will be assigned to the Express on Wednesday, when he will throw about 50 pitches in a start. The plan is for him to return to Rangers Ballpark for his bullpen session after that, and if all goes well, start again for Round Rock on Monday.
Holland has been out since June 6 because of a shoulder fatigue after losing about 15 pounds over a two-week period because of stomach virus.
Holland (5-4, 5.10 ERA) got a new contract in the spring through at least 2016 with options for two more years.
Alexi Ogando went on the 15-day DL because of a right groin strain sustained in his first start replacing Holland.
