DALLAS (AP) - Two Democratic U.S. Senate hopefuls are squaring off in a debate that won’t hit television airwaves until the day after it’s taped.

Paul Sadler is an attorney who served in the Texas House from 1991 until 2003. He will share a stage at KERA public television in Dallas with political unknown Grady Yarbrough, who has run previously as a Democrat and a Republican.

Sadler and Yarbrough were the top vote-getters in a crowded Democratic senatorial field where no candidate won a majority during last month’s primary. They meet in a July 31 runoff for the seat of retiring Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The debate tapes Tuesday afternoon but airs on KERA Wednesday evening.

Texas hasn’t elected a Democrat to the U.S. Senate since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.
