DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A deadly accident in Dallas Monday morning, after a woman trying to cross Northwest Highway at Preston was struck and killed by a cement truck.
“[The truck] ran her over with the rear tandem wheels, Dallas police Sgt. Fred Katani explained. “She died as a result of her injuries.”
Witnesses told police the woman was in the crosswalk.
Now investigators are trying to determine if the woman had the right-of-way and if the crosswalk signals were working properly.
“The truck driver said he had a green light. He did not have a green arrow, but had a green light, allowing him to make the turn,” Katani said.
Police say the driver was leaving a nearby construction site. The cement truck was empty.
The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, is 45-years-old.
“I believe, this is the 19th pedestrian, in the City of Dallas, killed this year, so far,” Katani said of the fatal accident.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
