COPPELL (CBSDFW.COM) – Three building evacuations, an on-scene Hazardous Material Team and support from DFW Airport’s bomb squad –– all for a mosquito trap?

That was the reality Monday in Coppell.

City spokeswoman Sharon Logan said the police department received a report of a suspicious object in an apartment complex at about 4 p.m.. Emergency crews responded and began “taking all the necessary precautions for safety reasons,” Logan said.

HAZMAT and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport’s bomb squad were called to the Town Creek Apartments on 190 N. Moore St. for support.

The bomb squad’s robot bravely maneuvered close to the object, allowing crews to see what it really was: A mosquito trapping device to help the city keep an eye on any West Nile-carrying pests.

Residents in the three evacuated buildings were allowed to return and the emergency crews returned to normal duty.

The mosquito trap was allowed to stay put.
