DALLAS (CBS SPORTS) - The Mavericks were forced to pick up the pieces after a seemingly failed offseason plan. But add another part to the rebuilt puzzle. According to ESPN Dallas, the Mavs have agreed to a new deal with Delonte West. According to the report, West will formally sign on Wednesday.
West played last season in Dallas after spending time in Boston and Cleveland before that. Largely playing a versatile role of point guard and some off the ball, West averaged 9.6 points, 3.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game for the Mavs last season. He’s battled injuries the past few years and played in only 44 games last season because of a fractured ring finger.
The Mavs, who missed out on Deron Williams after clearing most of the pieces from their 2011 championship team, have made a number of moves in the past weeks to rebuild. Along with West, the Mavs have picked up Elton Brand off the waiver wire, signed Chris Kaman, drafted Jared Cunningham and Jae Crowder, signed O.J. Mayo and acquired Darren Collison from Indiana. Not too bad.
