FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The vice president of the American Airlines flight attendants union, the Association of Professional Flight Attendants, urged members to approve the airline’s last, best contract offer. Flight attendants are currently in the process of voting.
In a newsletter emailed to flight attendants on Wednesday morning, the union’s vice president, Marcus Gluth, said that too much would be lost if they rejected the new contract. “After careful study of the potential harm and future devastation which would occur if the offer were rejected… my position has changed,” he said. “The more I read and understood the offer and the realities we face as a union, the easier my YES vote became to make and recommend.”
The union, including Gluth, still favors a merger with US Airways. “It is the best plan for the flight attendants and our company,” Gluth said. “The fastest way to accomplish a merger is by approving this offer.”
Next week, we will find out if the American Airlines pilots and mechanics unions vote to approve or reject the airline’s new contract offer.
