DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An elderly man has been killed and his wife seriously hurt after a smoky fire tore through their home in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas late Wednesday night.
Fire crews were called to the 10000 block of Mosscrest Drive shortly after 10:00 p.m. and were quickly told that two people were trapped inside.
Both victims were pulled from the bedroom area of the house and taken to Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. One of those people later died. The Dallas County Medical Examiner has identified him as 79-year-old George Molhusen. His wife was seriously hurt.
Firefighters said that the blaze was not large, but produced tremendous amounts of smoke. Intense heat caused a window to break. “It had to be a lot of heat generated in the kitchen before it broke that window out,” said Dallas Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Ray O’Dell. “But it did charge the house with smoke before it did that.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
