OXNARD, Calif. (AP) - Mackenzy Bernadeau is finally practicing in pads with the Dallas Cowboys.
Bernadeau signed an $11 million, four-year contract with $3.25 million guaranteed during free agency in March. But he missed all offseason workouts because of hip and knee surgeries, then started training camp on the physically unable to perform list.
When Dallas practiced Tuesday afternoon, Bernadeau was in pads for the first time after passing his conditioning test a day earlier.
Bernadeau, who played his first four NFL seasons for Carolina, is expected to be a starting guard. He could also play center because of injuries at that spot.
Coach Jason Garrett says he wants to get Bernadeau back to playing guard. The plan is to get him acclimated to his normal position then maybe expand that.
