WACO (AP) - The Baylor Bears are looking for Nick Florence to be more than a second-half fill-in for Robert Griffin III this season.
With the Heisman Trophy winner gone after a record-setting career at Baylor that included 10 wins and a bowl victory, Florence is set to take over as the starting quarterback. He played only one half last season when Griffin had an apparent concussion.
Florence isn’t alone in trying to prove that Baylor can keep winning without Griffin, now starting for the Washington Redskins.
Junior Ahmad Dixon says it’s a statement year to prove that Baylor isn’t defined by one guy and that the Bears aren’t one-hit wonders.
Baylor has a six-game winning streak. Its first game in the post-RG3 era is Sept. 2 at home against SMU.
