DALLAS (CBS SPORTS) - Shortstop phenom Jurickson Profar is an option to join the currently short Texas bench, Richard Durrett of ESPN Dallas reported Monday. The Rangers currently have 13 pitchers on their roster and just three bench hitters, and will likely add a hitter to the roster soon.
The 19-year-old Profar was rated the seventh-best prospect in baseball by Baseball America prior to the season, and has continued to hit well above his age leve at Double-A Frisco. In 110 games, Profar owns a .283/.362/.463 line despite playing with players often three-to-five (if not more) years older than him.
Club president Nolan Ryan noted that there has been some discussion about the move, and that it might not come until after rosters expand to 40 in September.
