ARLINGTON (AP) - Ryan Dempster has been reinstated from the restricted list to start the opener of the Texas Rangers’ homestand.
The AL West-leading Rangers reinstated Dempster before Monday night’s game against Baltimore.
Outfielder Leonys Martin, who was recalled Friday to take Dempster’s roster spot, was optioned back to Triple-A Round Rock.
Dempster has given up eight runs in two of his three starts with the Rangers since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs in a trade July 31. He was 1-1 with an 8.31 ERA for Texas before Monday night.
Dempster had been scheduled to start Saturday night at Toronto, but instead wasn’t with the team during the series in his native Canada. The Rangers have said only that Dempster was out for personal reasons.
